Seattle-based Cadence Biomedical announces international agreement following success with U.S. patients

SEATTLE– Cadence Biomedical, Inc., a medical device company focused on rehabilitation from neurological injuries and neurodegenerative conditions, announced its international expansion today. The company has entered into an agreement with LM, Co., Ltd. to be the exclusive distributor for the Kickstart Walking SystemTM in the Republic of Korea.

Kickstart is the world’s first affordable and easy-to-use neurorehabilitation system to retrain walking following stroke, incomplete spinal cord injury, and many other neurological conditions. Kickstart is unique in that it provides walking assistance without electronics – its patented exotendon technology is designed to store and return energy like a natural tendon to provide support, stability and assistance to weakened muscles, enabling patients to walk more naturally and eventually rehabilitate from their injuries.

Two versions of Kickstart are available: KickstartPT is an adjustable clinical model that rehabilitation facilities can use with patients during therapy sessions, and KickstartPersonal is custom fit to patients for use in home and community settings for daily activities. Two papers presented at the Combined Sections Meeting of the American Physical Therapy Association in Las Vegas in February confirmed Kickstart’s potential as both a walking aid and a therapeutic tool, demonstrating that Kickstart users improved their walking while wearing Kickstart and, after several months of use, were also able to maintain many of those improvements, even when walking without Kickstart.
